Principal Investigator - Alessandro Bertero, PhD
Alessandro is an Acting Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Lab Medicine & Pathology at the University of Washington in Seattle, USA. He is a Faculty member of the UW Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine (ISRCM) and the Center for Cardiovascular Biology. During his undergraduate studies he trained with the late Guido Tarone at the University of Turin in Italy, where he investigated the Melusin signalling pathway in cardiac hypertrophy and obtained a BSci (2009) and an MSci (2011). Having being awarded a British Heart Foundation Graduate Fellowship, he joined the laboratory of Ludovic Vallier at the University of Cambridge in the UK, where he obtained an MRes (2012) and a PhD (2016). His doctoral research focused on the mechanism by which TGF beta signalling controls early differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells. Alessandro performed his postdoctoral training with Chuck Murry at the University of Washington with the support of an EMBO Long-Term Fellowship (2017). During this time, he developed a research program focused on the role of 3D chromatin organization dynamics during human cardiogenesis and in familial dilated cardiomyopathy due to Lamin A/C mutations. Alessandro became a Junior Faculty member at UW in July 2019.
Alessandro enjoys biking and exploring the outdoors of the Pacific Northwest with his wife and son. When Seattle's weather does not allow for such activities, he enjoys boardgames and fantasy & sci-fi books. |
Research Scientist - Gabrielle Nattenberg
Gabby studied Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology at the University of Washington. She joined the group first as an undergraduate student helper and then as a research scientist. In the lab, she is helping to develop inducible CRISPRi and CRISPRa in stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes. She has also been developing cheaper media to culture stem cells in large scale.
Outside of lab, Gabby enjoys reading, exercising, and spending time with her friends. |
